BALB/Mtv-null mice responding to strong mouse mammary tumor virus superantigens restrict mammary tumorigenesis.
The absence of endogenous mouse mammary tumor viruses (MMTVs) in the congenic mouse strain, BALB/Mtv-null, restricts the early steps of exogenous C3H MMTV infection, preventing the superantigen (Sag) response and mammary tumorigenesis. Here we demonstrate that BALB/Mtv-null mice also resist tumor induction by FM MMTV, which encodes a stronger Sag compared to C3H MMTV. In contrast to infections ...

Endogenous superantigen-mediated thymic negative selection resulted in a paucity of mature T cells bearing T-cell receptor (TCR) Vbeta8 in the periphery. Consequently, the magnitude of immune response to exogenous superantigen staphylococcal enterotoxin B, which activates TCR Vbeta8(+) T cells, was significantly reduced and conferred protection from superantigen-induced mortality.

Mouse mammary tumor viruses (MMTV) from three different strains of mice have been used to establish productive infections in feline and mink cell lines. The virions that are released by these cells compete completely in a radioimmunoassay for the major virion surface glycoprotein of MMTV (gp52), thus demonstrating that antigenic determinants of gp52 are viral coded. Competitive molecular hybrid...
متن کاملGeneration of a tumorigenic milk-borne mouse mammary tumor virus by recombination between endogenous and exogenous viruses.
Two novel exogenous mouse mammary tumor viruses (MMTV), BALB2 and BALB14, that encode superantigens (Sags) with Vbeta2+ and Vbeta14+ specificities, respectively, were found in the BALB/cT mouse strain. BALB/cT females were crossed with AKR/J males to generate F1 females. Foster nursing of BALB/cT mice on (BALB/cT x AKR/J)F1 mothers resulted in the generation of a new mouse strain, BALB/cLA, tha...
متن کاملWild mouse RNA tumor viruses. A nongenetically transmitted virus group closely related to exogenous leukemia viruses of laboratory mouse strains
Type-C RNA viruses isolated from wild mice are causative of naturally occurring neoplasia and neurologic diseases. Biochemical and immunologic characterization of this virus group revealed that amphotropic viruses isolated from wild mice trapped in separate geographical areas are indistinguishable, whereas amphotropic and ecotropic viruses naturally infecting the same animal are env gene varian...
